Film, film, film....

Another epic journey is coming up! I plan to go to such varied and diverse places as Colombia, Parallell Paris, India and Iran, and even travel through time, space and dreams. It's a cineastic journey, though. My flights will be the lobby, my accommodation will be the comfy chairs and my tour guides will be movie directors. It's time, again, for Göteborg Film Festival!

Dreams Rewired – Artmetamentary by Thomas Tode, Manu Luksch, Martin Reinhart

The early
history of film has seldom been told as playfully and visually innovative as this, and Tilda Swinton’s narration is the perfect blend of cheerfulness and
gravitas. Clever in-frame jokes and a loving approach to the silliness of
yesteryear hold this otherwise pretty nonsensical film well above water.

L’humour à mort (Je suis Charlie) – docucommentary by Daniel Leconte, Emmanuel Leconte

Documentary Posted on 2016-02-02 22:51

Roughly a
year after the horrible murders at Charlie Hebdo comes a documentary about the
event. And that’s pretty much all there is to it. Talking heads, archive
footage, some of the hate triggering drawings. Instead of crossing the line in
the same way as the magazine portrayed, blasphemously challenging the
religitards, Leconte just goes tepid on a hot topic.

It might
have been better had I been more subdued in French satire tradition, but as it
is, this was just ‘meh’. And that’s not the reaction you want for a work
depicting something as controversial as the events of January 7th 2015.
